ADDICTION

Jude Chukwuemeka Muoneke

Notice of absence from Jude Chukwuemeka Muoneke
I will surely get back to you when I come online.

Daily I search the scripture
Because I'm scared of rapture
Before me lies my addiction
Though not against my tradition.

The troubles of life weigh me down
Fate has pushed me up and down
My sorrows and worries multiply
Responsibilities I can't supply.

Family and friends have deserted me
Like Job's wife, in suffering she let me be
I have realized my mollies and follies
Never you judge my jollies and dollies.

Salvation lies in the Holy Book
Though I smoke, I read and look
Ekwensu seeks to own my soul,
In faith, Jesus will make me whole.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem reflects on life's ups and downs. Men face a lot in a bid to take up their fatherly and husbandly responsibilities. In life, one or two addictions are inevitable. But in all, man needs God's grace to strive to perfection.

An addiction can be to anything and even what we think of as noble can become one. A deep write.

Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
