Carnegie Of Lasses

Jerry Reynolds

Blinking patterns of love
You taste the light
Of male fireflies
Attracting mates–
Frolicking about the yard
Enjoying a summer night
Children trap them in jars
Frustrating their plight–
Hidden in the grasses
Fertile females render
Adjusted firefly flashes
Some for love–
Some for dinner.
