Popular

NinjaGirl

Society defines with rigid standard,
Everyone competing for anyone's attention,
It seems life is a popularity contest,
Only certain people get certain jobs.
I was never able to climb the ladder,
Never able to get the right glow-up.
What is popular if not fake?

My lines overflowed with desperation,
My world, an ocean filled with raptors.
Individuals constantly seek recognition,
Self-absorbed and behave like Hollywood actors.
The only ladder I climbed is the one in the playground,
But happy and pleased, proud of my background.

Everyone wants to shine
While I just want to disappear
Popularity isn't for me, it's too confusing
All these social rules are so unclear
It seems that everything I do draws the wrong attention
Biting remarks from the girls in my class
Sexual jeers from the boys in the halls
Whatever I do, I can never get a pass
Just leave me standing on the side of the road
I'm happy to watch the chaos from afar
Because I'd rather be alone than this never quite fitting in
And the last thing I want is to be one of those glittering all-stars

I'd rather be me than a fake version of popularity,
True self over trending, that's my reality.
I'll take the road less followed, with my own stride,
No need for validation, I'll walk with my own pride.
Embracing my individuality, I'll shine so bright,
No fake persona needed, I'll be me, day and night.

If I wanted to be popular, I would be wanting to be
Fake.
Fake is not who I am,
So many people being fake to be popular.
Popular is not who I am,
So many people which are popular are fake.
I’d rather be me,
Doesn’t that give you such a fright?

Ah.. I'd say welcome to my world but it's neither mine or ours.
We're tick-tocking through this scene counting down the hours.
So you're like me huh, rejected by a society that projects their evil on to you?
Painted as a villain just because you're different from the lie they call true?
Put your paint on clowns, dance for them, don't forget to smile!
Don't you tell them how you feel, or you'll be the one so vile!
Forget that, kick off their stupid unfitting shoes, never be afraid to just be you!
Is it really chaos if it doesn't affect you? After all,
It's their world, and they reject you..

    We all cast judgement
    We all lust
    Taken away the animal side
Leave us all high and dry
    A symbol of compassion
    Magnetic trust
    They all fall in line
    They all will die
    Socially normalize hate
We are running out of time
    Running low on lines
I hope we realized before it's too late
