A thief in the night -
That you were
Stole my heart, body & soul
Gave you all of me & did the best I knew how
I was so young, barely 18
Loved you unconditionally,
Wanted you to be my forever
I was naive, didn't know any better
Took my heart & broke it into pieces
What did I do so wrong?
Why did you pull away?
One minute you loved & wanted only me
The next you wanted somebody else
Confused, alone & lost
Couldn't understand why -
What did I do so wrong?
That made you walk away & say goodbye?
Thought you were my forever
Oblivious to the truth
I was just a page in your book
Nothing more than that!
Thief in the night you were
Stole my heart, body & soul
Strived to be the woman you yearned for
Young & in love
Wanted you to be my forever
What did I do so wrong?
Loved me one minute & the next not so much
I was so young & my heart you crushed

"Thief in the night you were Stole my heart, body & soul" Excellent line especially in the context of a first love. Your writing threw me back to my first love. A love that was so young yet so bold. A staple in the memories of my mind flew threw me as I read your poem. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for the kind words. Also, for taking time to read my work
Some very nice lines here. A plea for understanding evoking feelings of loss and betrayal. Nicely worded
