Cosmic Luv

A.H. Browning

I prayed to the universe
To give me a true love
And what was my luck?
My luck was a duck 🤨

And not just a duck 🦆
A crazy little duck
So typical, my luck
An affectionate, loony duck

All the other ducks
Turned their backs, showed their butts
But not my little duck
My duck was just nuts 🤪

I really shouldn’t complain
That my duck 🦆 was insane
Showed me awkward affection
Wait, was God in on this 🤨🤔❓‼️❓

So… when all the other ducks
Just ignore my existence
Will crazy duck win my heart
With unsettling persistence

Well, hello there my friend
🦆🤷🏻

  • Comment from author about the poem: After reading the poem Sitting Ducks by Goldfinch60, I was “inspired” to write this nonsense. I recently went biking with friends on The Swamp Rabbit Trail in Greenville, SC. Very nice. We stayed on the river at a very nice hotel. At the hotel where we stayed, the river ran right beside, with some nice public spaces to watch nature and enjoy the company of all the different people out enjoying the area. So, there were quite a few ducks right there when I arrived and walked down to the river’s edge; ducks doing “duck stuff” beside the river. There were probably at least 30 or more ducks right there, walking around and completely ignoring me. All except for the one duck that walked up to me on the sidewalk and followed me, looking at me like I was family or something 😂. I had a feathery friend for a minute 👍

A most fun read but upon reflection it becomes an allegory and applicable to so many. We are often loved by those we least suspect and in fact have little regard for. The ugly duckling has many times knocked on my door and it broke my heart to turn them away.

Thank you for reading and the thoughtful comment. The picture I included of the duck is actually the one that walked right up to me.
