Fading

Kenny O'Donnell

Life has lost its charm and shine

It's faded in recent years of mine

Dread and regret wells within me

Like a bile thick with agony.

Things have not turned out as I hoped

Perhaps I'm alone, or maybe just like most

My youthful ambitions have turned to sand

I have resigned to live on as an unremarkable man.

I have no tales or stories to regale

My time on this earth must seem limp and pale

The Gods must think me such a joke

They will harbour no festivities when I croak

An undecorated gravestone that Is my future

Here lies someone. A forgettable creature

It should not be too late to save myself

But for so many years I've known nothing else.

It's a crime against nature to live so little

So do not settle for an existence so brittle

Do what you can to inject your life with colour

And take those lessons on to many another.
