The quiet

RSM0812

All I know is still,

All I know is silent.

In the darkness or in the light,

Both so strong and vibrant.

I took it then upon myself,

To listen ever closer,

Sounds of rain and falling winds,

In rooms that didn’t end.

Nor begin in fact, my mind to mend, or not to know her.

My heart now beating faster.

This is where I heard them sing,

And heard the merry laughter,

Of children in the oceans tides,

Drowning in a dance of lives,

And swimming to the golden shores there after.

Little steps they took, no rush not quick,

To hear again the silence and the stillness of the breath of those who lived before the dead, before the sick.

And every star was new as birth, and every light was one of equal worth.

Only then was there one star in the vastness of an even vaster universe.

Alive like candles floating on a soft breeze. Only one light, until the rain it came and the children put back on their shoes, walked through the flame put down their laughter and rested in the cold still silence neither here nor there again in this quiet, still rapture.

In both light and darkness it’s name is life. As death approaches to kiss his wife goodnight.

A most beautifully worded poem that paints a picture in metaphor's colors. From nothingness through birth to death. The internal rhyme worked so well to keep the emotion and pacing needed in this poem. Lovely certainly one of my favorites.

Thank you. I wrote it last night as I had someone close pass away suddenly yesterday of a heart attack. My mind was on the kiss of death I guess.
