Blue Eyes, Blue Eggs, Lost Love.

Cassie58

Notice of absence from Cassie58
I am taking a break from poetry

joannie struck a chord

sang the saddest of songs

of a revisiting ghost

she sang about bobbie

when the moon was full

in her soulful soprano voice

diamonds and rust, lost love

a haunting of sorts

she sang that his blue eyes

were bluer than robins eggs

i remembered those eyes

knew it to be true

and though i have never seen

a robin’s egg, one was hidden

for sure in a nest in the ivy

outside our back door

for the robin diligently

entered with juicy grubs

when it was safe to do so

when no one was looking

until one morning I found

on the unforgiving ground

a fledgling, pathetic

cold in its half made vest

i watched the distress

of the returning bird

heard its anguish

saw it take off for good

my thoughts caught joannie

was she pushed from the nest

or did she fly away

of her own accord

Joan Baez and her song Diamonds and Rust has always been a favorite of mine. She tells of her relationship with Bob Dylan and it applies so well in this poem metaphor or not. Wonderful wording and flow with a bit of a question at the end. Very nice Cassie

Thank you so much. That track is a favourite of mine as well sorenbarrett. Pleased you enjoyed the read.

Saw them in what was supposed to be a joint concert on Boston Common in the early sixties. Joan sang beautifully for nearly all the time of the concert and Bob was explained as being ill. When nearly all the crowd had left, Bob showed up, stoned out of his mind, and mumbled a couple of songs until security grabbed him and took him to safety. Still two of the greats of the "Folk" era, and Bob a supreme poet, ahead of his time.
Needless to say, your poem brought back memories for me. I've been a fan of both, all my life. Your poem was a wonderful adaptation of "Diamonds and Rust." Very inventive. Loved it. - Phil A.

                  Lucky you seeing them both. Pleased my poem brought back memories for you. Thank you so much for stopping by ;

Write from the off, this is such an emotionally charged poem Cassie, so full of love and loss as you mention in your second verse .. it tells a tale that is clearly both autobiographical and reflective ..

Joan B's Diamonds & Rust album sits among my very own collection & the track in question is not only one of my personal favourites but must rank amongst one of the very best folk love songs of all time ..

Your concluding verse poses an intriguing question also and one that I imagine each of your fans will decide for themselves ..

I have seen Dylan many times, the last time last year in Cardiff when he was back on form and amazing .. I am due to see him again maybe for the last time this coming November in Bournemouth ..

Our European robins eggs are not blue they are creamy buff or white speckled with a reddish brown colour more so at the large end ..
I reckon Joan was referring to the US version ..

An amazing poem here Cassie, just be sure you never fail to impress and to please .. Have a marvellous Monday chuck .. Neville

A fine write to accompany so beautiful a song by Joan Baez, one of my all-time favs of her. And Dylan, one of my all-time favorite poets. I always felt so sad that they didn't stay together. ๐ŸŒน

                      • Cassie58
