The Anonymous Daughter

Serene

I was alone, heard your footsteps in the night
I took a deep breath, something didn’t feel right
The lights went out, you pulled me near
I begged and pleaded, consumed by fear

You smiled and whispered, “This is your fate,”
As I screamed in terror, you sealed my fate
I screamed with all my might
You took pleasure in my plight

You broke my bones, tore my skin
Ripping apart the life within
I wonder if this is earth or a cursed spell
Are you human or a demon from hell?

You left me broken, clothes soaked in red
With shattered hopes and dreams left for dead
I knew it was time for me to go
But before I leave, one thing I must know

Was it my fault, was it my sin
To be born a girl in this cruel den?

  • Comment from author about the poem: “The Anonymous Daughter” reflects my deep anguish and concern over the tragic case of a female doctor who was raped and murdered in Kolkata. Through this poem, I aim to capture the profound suffering and terror she faced, while also highlighting the urgent need for better protection for women and medical professionals. This work seeks to raise awareness and advocate for systemic change to address the ongoing issues of violence and inadequate safeguards in our society.

"Its not the fault of the girl but why must she still stay in fear?"
Some severe steps should be taken, not just for the criminal but for the people protecting that devil.
The depiction was truly great in the poem.

I hope your writing serves some purpose in changing things. I felt the horror when I read this.
