Saudi Arabia

Notice of absence from Thepoetman1234
THE GOAT

Humid Gusts of air enter my nose as I exit the airport

Massive Cars lined up for pickup and any Bikes? Nought.

The desert covers as far as the arabian seas

No animals, No grass. No water. No bugs and bees.

My first sighting is an Oil pump, found dense in this part

the backbone of the economy and the world's cart

Even though Saudi is scarce and arid

The cars inside are cool and Barid

The prison like "compound" is security, security, security

as BAE systems employees are a white minority

However entering it turns 180

from desert to green and arid to shady

I look fourth to the house I will live in for a working career

A beige building, brown furniture and a boring appear

As a brit, I will look forward to the "compounds" bar

which cannot be enjoyed by my muslim counterpar

I think I will like this :)

  • Comment from author about the poem: I've been an expatriate for 14 years in Saudi Arabia and I believe It is a great experience. So I decided to make a poem detailing my first experience in 2009. If you are curious Barid is cold in arabic, used it in poem.

Quite a well painted description of the place. Nice word choice
