PAINFUL TRANSITION I

Jude Chukwuemeka Muoneke

Notice of absence from Jude Chukwuemeka Muoneke
I will surely get back to you when I come online.

Today my dreams are cut short
by people I called family and friends,
I was healthy and hearty,
Without a knock of headache.

I just stepped out
for a meeting;
Meeting of friendly woes,
Some colleagues, some friends.

Much eating and drinking
took place,
It was there they signed
my obituary note.

That night was like million hours,
Suddenly I was gasping
for breath,
My wife tried all she could.

But fate was thwarted,
I struggled with many forces
with fainting voice,
My eyes were fast closing.

Looking at my kids,
Tears ran like a tap;
Flowing down my cheeks,
Indeed! It was too late.

Oh! Poison!
The vehicle of my transition,
What is my crime?
Who will take care of my family?

My wife just got admission
at Fuwukari,
Rejoicing to toll the path of graduates,
Today I stood stranded at the other side
Telling my tales.

My soul will never rest in peace
until the hands that crafted this,
Rest in pieces,
I'm sorry darling;
That I couldn't heed to your warnings.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is an elegy. It reflects on death. It was unfortunate that death took a man through poison. He was poison by his friendly foes. May his soul rest in peace.

    Sad and dark this tribute reflects concerns about such actions.

    Very compelling. Told with humanity in all its glory and flaws. You tell a good story friend.
