SOKOTO

Jude Chukwuemeka Muoneke

Notice of absence from Jude Chukwuemeka Muoneke
I will surely get back to you when I come online.

Ashes we are
Dust to dust we are
All will return,
Today, Deborah's turn.

Tomorrow is pregnant
Fate isn't stignant
One by one, we bow
Tears the seed that fight and how.

Vengeance is of God
Believe it, not for god
Fate might appear funny
It payback won't be funny.

Sokoto her golgotha
Her blood flows to gotha
Her soul at heaven's gate
Retribution, her killers will get.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is an elegy. It's a sad poem that reflects the killing of Deborah a Christian student schooling in Sokoto, northern Nigeria. According to her killers, she was killed and burnt to death because she blasphemed against their prophet. May her soul rest in peace. Amen
