Tune: Mannheim
('Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us')
Proverbs 27 v.1-6
*******
Boast not yourself of tomorrow
You know not what it shall show
Let another praise you, and not
Praise yourself in selfish lot
So it brings to God the glory
Ever worthy He e'er be
A stone is heavy, sand weighty
But foolish ones wrath it be
Heavier than them both, and too
Wrath is cruel, and anger true
Is an outrage, but who can stand
Before envy in the land?
Open rebuke it better be
Then secret love hidden, see
Faithful are the wounds of a friend
But if enemies do tend
You kisses they are deceitful
If trusting them you shall fall

- Comment from author about the poem: Back to singing! A hymn poem in 8.7.8.7.8.7. I think it's number 7 in the series. Something like that anyway. I don't think the 'wounds' in verse 3 mean physical wounding - more like emotional, rebukes, correcting each other, etc.

Good advice given here although old language and just plain cryptic verse makes some of it a thing to ponder. Nicely done Orchi
Thanks SB. Argh! I aim not to be cryptic, but those wise writers of Proverbs bring in metaphors, allegories, etc.
I'm not against modern language, but don't like some modern Bibles adding bravo, hooray, etc. It just makes it trashy in places, I think.
Understand there have been enough changes over the years
It grates with me if I hear ultra-modern stuff in churches. Fido adds 'Woof, woof' to his doggy-Bible but that's OK. lol.
