Notice of absence from Jude Chukwuemeka Muoneke
I will surely get back to you when I come online.
I will surely get back to you when I come online.
Troubles weigh me down,
They come to haunt me at dawn,
None knows my pain,
With smiles, it seems I gain.
Trousers also cry,
But their faces look dry,
At work, we take pills,
Just to pay our bills.
Responsibilities are like albatross,
Hanging on our necks like cross,
At night, I question fate,
It seems like I lack faith.
Men are troubled,
But seems like they bobble,
The onions are too heavy,
At night we lie heavy.
Chi-chi places her demand,
But I try to reprimand,
School fees, at hand,
And we need a land.
Thoughts keep me awake at night,
In darkness without light,
Should I end it?
No, I will fight it.
What becomes of the children?
The church will frown, even the brethren,
It's my cross,
And I will look up to the Cross.

- Comment from author about the poem: The poem reflects on the responsibilities men go through at home. The yolk of fatherly responsibilities is heavy on them. On daily basis they go out to hustle to put food on the table and pay other bills staring at their faces. Indeed to be a man isn't easy. Men are yolked with so many family responsibilities, and that's why most of them die young and leave their families at the mercy of fate.

Life can be a heavy burden but it goes on
For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in a snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
