I am the Lord of the Crows

Brokenmasculity

Every time I walk outside, there they are.
Following my every step with their beady yellow eyes.
Like they know my sin.
As if they see every dark part of me.
The things that I hide deep down inside...exposed to them.

Every time I close my eyes to slumber and rest.
They follow me to my dreams.
Tormenting and chastising me in my solitude.
Sinner!
Sinner!
Louder and louder with every claim.
Sinner!
Sinner!

Repeatedly they haunt me.
With each and every night.
Louder and louder, they squawk the ever more.
Till my ears begin to bleed.
We know what you are!
Lead us!
We know what you've done.
Lead us!

Till in my despair I lash out.
Leave me!
And I awaken as a trapped animal in a cage.
Frightened.

And whenever I leave my abode.
Where I could hide my sin from the daylight.
It is the crows that I still cannot escape.
They fly overhead tormenting me the ever more.
With each squawk they call out to me.

Murderer!
Wretched one!
Murderer!
Wretched one!

Till one day my madness takes hold of me.
And I fall to my knee's pleading out to the crows.
What do you want from me O you wretched beast?
Leave me!

And they reply to my plea coldly and with sinister delight.
We see the blood on your hands.
We know who you are.
We know what you are.
We know your sins.
Lead us.

And my hands draping my face.
As I rip at my flesh with my fingers.
Screaming out in agony.

Then a feeling of bliss follows.
Freedom.
I see everything clearly now through my blood.

And the crows fly above me.
I am surrounded by them.
As they rest on my shoulders.
Squawking the ever louder.

My eyes become yellow.
I am the Lord of the Crows.

  • Comment from author about the poem: So, this is a poem that is of course inspired by Edgar Allen Poe's writings! This is just a rough draft and wanted to see what people thought! Because he is truly a massive inspiration on why I write. All criticism is welcomed! I'm truly wanting to become a better and more diverse poet!
