8th in middle school, donned my crown
Walked through the halls, tall and proud
Walk out to the world, stand your ground.
My god
The stares, the stares, the stares.
Two thirds in 2017, discriminated
At work by “looking muslim”
49% “Distinct appearance” - clothed women,
Will you all stop and just listen?
Cloth, a simple cloth,
Means so much to a lot
A statement, a symbol, a story,
A target.
The world wont see you, as you, deadrose.
The world will see whats on your head
And why your sleeves are long
And cover your scarred arms and your
Legs and the men not of your book,
Around and around you they will
Call you oppressed and hoot and jump
At any chance to make you feel as though
You are practicing your morals, your ideals,
Your faith - wrong.
Terrorist - be gone.
ACLU - 69% hijabi women, more likely to
Face discrimination. Gee, wonder why.
55% of muslim students, 29% of hijabi girls
Scarf pulled off, dignity trashed,
Beaten up, shot in their heads,
Banned banned banned,
What's on your head be damned…
Yet they still stood up and went to class.
Mother asked if i was sure
if i wanted to take up a crown
Fear from her i would end up
Bottom of a river, cut up on the streets, strung up in a tree…
Mother, if I end up dead it will be from my own hands - please.
Stare all you want, i'm too tired to care
Done with the whispers, don't need more up here
Honey you should see me in a crown,
Im fighting my battle all alone,
Yell at my face, you’re talking to stone
My morals and faith are set, go off on your own,
I’m deadrose, a girl with a crown,
A woman who will soon be world renown,
So save your worthless efforts.
The plants work tirelessly for your meaningless words.
