Nostalgia

catluvr18

Sitting in the library

The world has gone to sleep

The Avett Brothers play enthusiastically in my ears

I can recall the gentle hum of the wheels

The passing of street lights

And the endless stars above my head

The hours in the car on road trips

My brother by my side

In the backseat of a blue Chrysler

My mother pinching our knees when we fought

Our laughs blending together

Mumford & Sons accompany our symphony

These are the trips of our lives

The ones we make when young

With our family

Songs bring me back to those times

In the backseat of a blue Chrysler

Driving down i-80 to western USA

The Lumineers were my lullaby

Now they’re my own Prozac

Calming my fluttering belly

I miss those moments

On the road

With you

  • Comment from author about the poem: I have a playlist that reminds me of these roadtrips my family took every summer. My mother really loves The Lumineers, Mumford & Sons, The Avett Brothers, etc. I grew up listening to these bands and now they're a focal part of my music taste. I just started college this past week and was doing homework while I listened to this playlist. It made me long for another time when I didn't have to worry about my essay due tomorrow.
