The Bird Scene: Take I

Bren Wrights

Time to start again
Making changes till the end
Countless spins and twirls in these shoes
And squeezing pencils hard enough to bruise

Another night spent gazing at an empty page
Dreaming, pleading, and wishing for a sage
To whisper faintly into my ear
His secrets that I hope to share

If only I could look within
And discover a foreign feeling
One so alien to the ones I’ve known
Then I could reap what I now sow

My past struggles were rejected
And my heart was unfortunately affected
By the cruel scrutiny of the noise from the crowd
Leaving me screaming without a sound

The wings that once fluttered with grace

Now hides my face with disgrace

Disdain for what now remains

Nothing feels the same again

Pardon my words if they come off as rude
But I now realize what I must do
To evolve and ignore sentiments so crude
And show the world what I have to prove

Nicely said Bren. Words well worked from a first person perspective. That made this poem very personal. Loved it
