Gutter Is My Home

rebellion_in_sanity

I fought to be free,
Free from the tyranny,
Tyranny of being flung into the gutter
For my poverty.

I rebelled, I said NO.
I screamed like thunder,
I danced like a fire.
I brought in the chills,
I tore apart everything
Like a raging storm.

Then came the wise men,
Looked me over, with disdain in their eyes,
Intoned in a holy way,
“Change your ways, son,
You are rushing towards a pitiful demise.”

I listened to them, I listened to them well.
In the chaotic world of my mind, I dug a deep well.
The Well of Redemption
Where I sacrifice parts of me every day
I throw into it
My true thoughts, true feelings,
True emotions and my true beliefs.

At every farewell,
I bury part of my soul.
I mourn the loss,
I transform, I change
As I grow old.

Fire no longer dances,
It no longer snows.
Floods stopped coming in,
I do all
As I am being told

Still at night,
Hyenas dig out the bones,
Bones which were buried for so very long.
Sparks lay bare the hidden fire,
The fire which smouldered
And never disappeared.

The rebel emerges with a chilling stare,
Commands me to rise,
Commands me to dance,
Shows me how to finish my unfinished dance,
The one I buried in the well
When I wanted to be a 'WHOLE'

I pursued money,
I ran after fame,
For so so long
I did it with a devotion,
Which would have given life to a stone
Now I am 'WHOLE',
By making the supreme sacrifice
I sacrificed Myself to save my life

I was in the gutter
In Gutter do I go
It was my body when I was poor
Now it is my soul
