CAN WE TALK

Jude Chukwuemeka Muoneke

Notice of absence from Jude Chukwuemeka Muoneke
I will surely get back to you when I come online.

We have gone through sweet pains
Some natural, some man-made,
Gossips nearly tear us apart
Strict rules were tied to your legs.

Convid 19 came like a bad omen
To choke our sweet memories
Rumors filtered from lips to ears
To keep us closely apart.

Though you have conditioned
my libido, under lock and key,
To strictly follow the due process,
By paying dues to tradition.

The high heaven knows,
How cherished you are to my heart
Your African beauty seduces my eyes
My thighs are dead to emotions.

But you see, I have a problem
My eyes are charmed to fairness
And slim-fittedness arrest my being
Character, though skin deep,
Makes me a slave.

This, I have battled for years
Could this be Agwu?
Daily I slay on my knees,
Presenting my supplications to Yahweh.

  • Comment from author about the poem: The poem reflects on friendship, relationship and love. The poet persona tells his relationship tales, expressing his feelings to the woman he loves so dearly. In the poem he tells her that his libido is under lock and key, probably she's not his spec. But then, he tries to find solutions to the problem. Though the poem ends as the poet persona states that he has no choice than to look up to God for solution.
