On Patriots Day 9/11

Accidental Poet

This song is about a day in American history that will never be forgotten. A day that socked the whole world, and showed us all the kind of world we live in. A world of violence, of hate, of how cruel we can be to our fellow man. How some would rather see their enemies die in horrible deaths instead of finding solutions to bring peace to a world that needs it so desperately.

But this is also a song of hope, of human compassion, of what it means to pull your family close and teach them why world peace is so important in this day and age.

"And the greatest is Love!"

On Patriot's Days 9/11

Not so long ago

Was born a new Patriots Day

As we all grieved together

The whole world changed that day

Now it’s been over twenty years

And still, we mourn their loss

Gone is Osama Bin Laden

And still, we weigh the cost

Since man has walked this Earth

Tribes of men have waged senseless wars

Infected with greed and revenge

It’s the love of God we must restore

Heroes on the ground

And heroes in the air

In spite of all the danger

To save lives you dared

And it doesn’t get any easier

As the years go by

The evidence is clearly

There in our eyes

And so, in honor of their memory

We declare this day for them

A nation stands proud

A world of grieving friends

They’ll not be forgotten

The stars and stripes still wave

Their legacy survives

The proud, the strong, the brave

On this day for them

Standing tall, we’ve found our way

For all they gave us

On this new Patriots Day

Sending my love to you dearest A.P on this day of remembrance ๐ŸŒน

    • Accidental Poet

Didn't waste any time on this one Teddy. Thank you dear friend. ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿซ‚

I get really choked up on this day remembering it all watching it live in disbelief hoping someone would say it was a joke, it wasn't this was definitely a day anyone of a remembering age will be stuck with. You have written a beautiful piece on what is now patriots day. ๐ŸŒน ๐Ÿ’™

        • Accidental Poet

Yes Teddy, unfortunately it was not a joke. I remember thinking "how can someone take a plane full of passengers and fly it directly into the World Trade Center?" The fear that had gripped those passengers as the events of that flight took place was horrific. And now 23 years later, it's impact still has me in disbelief that it could happen. Thank you for your thoughts Teddy. ๐Ÿซ‚

          A poignant write AP.

        • Doggerel Dave

Makes me ill just imagining those who had to end their lives that day - make a decision, burn to death or a quick end through the window....
But that's war for you - a situation where innocent people die.

          • Accidental Poet

Senseless Dave. Thank for your comment.

            • Doggerel Dave

Senseless, yes. Seems the whole world has lost its senses, AP.

I just don't understand patriotism, though.

              • Accidental Poet

There's two kinds of patriots Dave. Patriots who care about their country, and patriots who care only about themselves. "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country"- quote from a great ex-president. And no, it's not Donald Trump. Thanks Dave. ๐Ÿ˜‰

                • Doggerel Dave

Still don't understand, AP but I don't intend to pursue it.

                  • Accidental Poet

                    I wouldn't either, you can't fix stupid. ๐Ÿ™„

                    • Doggerel Dave

๐Ÿ˜‚"Peace and love" you say, AP.........

You are being quite offensive there, but obviously don't see the contradiction.......

                      • Doggerel Dave

                        Ahoy there, AP.
Just to let you know that Iโ€™ve pinned a piece on Patriotism, which seems to be doing reasonably well.

Thereโ€™s also discussion below there, most of which, Iโ€™d hazard a guess will go right over your head. Best you stick at what you are good at โ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆ??
Oh, and next time donโ€™t be so bloody rude.

23 years later it still makes no sense. Thanks Andy.

                          Land of the brave
                          Home of the free
                          Who occupies thee?
                          A man in a cave
                          Heavily guarded
                          Airspace
                          So many lives
                          Gone to waste

A very nice tribute to a terrible day. Very nicely written my friend.

Two brothers who'll never forget on two sides of the same pond. ๐Ÿซ‚

                              • Cassie58

Iโ€™ll never forget what horror I witnessed on tv that dreadful day. All those lives lost. Every time I think about it, I ask why? Why would anyone have so much hatred they plan an atrocity on this scale. Your words dear AP have brought it all back to me. Remembering all who lost their lives and their friends and families on that blackest of days.

                                • Accidental Poet

Thanks for reading Cassie. Some people in the world won't be happy until the whole world burns. Sad, but that's the way they are wired apparently. As I said to Teddy, the light of those people lost live on in us remembering them. ๐ŸŒน
