REFLECTION

poet-colette

1. Looking into the mirror

What do I see?

Is that person me

Or the person I used to be?

2. The man staring at me is familiar

But then he was more rugged,

Rough and tattered,

Abused and battered,

Unhappy and tired.

3. Left home to be a better version

A new and improved interpretation

Found myself in horrible situations,

Situations beyond mere imagination

In desolation, famishment and starvation.

4. If only I knew what drugs could do to a person

I would have never gotten involved I’m quite certain

Was it the pressure or it was the tension?

I would never be sure of the reason

Whatever it was, it was all bound to happen

At least now, I am at peace with the heavens.

5. Remembering I was on my way to work,

I finally decide to look away

But these memories with me will forever stay

At the end of the day,

I only had myself to blame.
