A LIVING ICON

Jude Chukwuemeka Muoneke

Notice of absence from Jude Chukwuemeka Muoneke
I will surely get back to you when I come online.

Her pen has kissed many nations,
Her words have heal souls,
Women get delivered and baptized
in her revolutionary movement.

Purple Hibiscus,
The magic of her pen,
Achebe's seed she is,
What a successor!

Half of a Yellow Sun,
The tales of Biafran war
Women the heroines,
Ugwu the testifier.

Americanah,
The tales of African-Americans
Whose experiences are sorry,
Toes scampering for safety.

The Thing Around your Neck,
The plights of women,
Education, their means of escape,
Nwangba wrestled with patriarchy.

Though tagged feminist,
Her pen raises dust,
A call for liberation,
Patriarchal chains are let loose.

Her pen will live forever,
Liberating many generations,
From cultural madness,
That has keep many Eves in chains.

  • Comment from author about the poem: The poem reflects and celebrates a Literary Icon Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie. She's one of the writers in Nigeria and Africa at large. Her literary works are very educative and liberative, especially the female folks. She is a liberator that writes to liberate women from the caprices of patriarchy. She writes to expose the ills of the society, especially mirroring how women are unjustly treated by men. Women are part of every society, and as such, they ought to be treated well in all ramifications. God bless Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie for availing herself as a writer to use her pen in educating and liberating women in Africa and the world at large.
