In vain

Revernd21

I walk among these people

With the hope someone will see me

A face to light up in acknowledgement

Maybe even a smile given discreetly

Yet they look past me

Like I'm not even there

Don't they see my new clothes

Or my freshly trimmed hair?

Hell even a jealous murmur

Or an indication of any kind

Would be enough validation

To ease my restless mind

Is what I see in the mirror

And what the world sees the same?

Or is it all a mirage?

My efforts to appear interesting

...

in vain
