my
eyes
are
dry
as tears
stream inward
through the tormented
landscape of
my
mind
i
cry
out inside
the flutter-filled
cavernous corridors
of titillating torturous trepidation
the silent suffering scream
of the broken
butter
fly
i
cry

- Comment from author about the poem: Every month is mental health awareness month. Every day is mental health awareness day. I am mentally ill in the ways that I am, you are in the ways that you are. Know you are not alone, ever. Written just prior to realizing this week's Sparkle City Magic's Week #4 prompts on Medium, but when I saw "butterfly" as one of the prompts, I knew I had to submit.

Great write
Thank you!
You're welcome
A personal write?
Bit of a silly aside, if it wasn't such a serious theme: I don't fancy experiencing 'torturous', but I don't suppose any of us do!
Very much a personal write. I suffer from an anxiety disorder and this one flowed out from that torturous space. Indeed. No one fancies experiencing torturous anything! LOL! Thank you again, my friend, for reading, commenting and caring enough to inquire. 🖤❤️🖤🙏
You're welcome 🙂 My so-called singing won't ease your anxiety! 'screech, screech'(heehee).
Hi Tristan, I won't make an attempt at using adjectives to describe my feelings while reading the poem - perhaps saying it drew me into the vortices of the torment would suffice. The combination of brevity and adornment and absence of artificial portrayal make this poem a hard hitter. Thank you for sharing. Regards Bhaskar
Thank you so much for reading and for your sincere feedback. It truly means a lot to me and I am so glad the poem resonated!
The alliteration in the second half had me--butterflies have a special place in my heart. This poem is truly one of the best ones I've ever read.

Wow! Thank you so much for your really kind words! Butterflies do rock, and they (the insect) bring me much joy! That you find this poem to be one of then best you’ve read truly humbles me. From what I have read of you, right back at you on the talent! Thank you so much for reading and giving your feedback! Also, I apologize for the delayed response.
Really good…
Thank you!
A most poignant poem written in great metaphor. As a psychologist I believe as you we all suffer from our own mental illness to greater or lessor degrees and we need to be sensitive to others. A beautiful wirte
