THE CHIEF PRIEST

Jude Chukwuemeka Muoneke

Notice of absence from Jude Chukwuemeka Muoneke
I will surely get back to you when I come online.

I was born for this,
To proclaim the good news;
But I can't explain,
How I got here.

I was a virgin,
When I had intercourse
With literature,
Will I ever recover my innocency?

My eyes have regained
her virginity,
But the heart dances
To the rhythm of poetry.

Could this be Agwu,
hindering my calling?
Always masquerading
in lines and stanzas,
To increase my Muse.

Ekwensu must not win
this battle,
If not, he will glorify his foolishness
And mock my soul forever,
Okunmuo, a paradise for sinners.

Like the prodigal son,
Many, will come back to the Father
At the sound of my poetries,
To adore and pay reverence
To Chukwu Okike forever.

  • Comment from author about the poem: The poem reflects on one's calling. The poet persona talks about his calling to creative writing. He finds himself to always write to educate the world and likewise to preach the gospel of the existence heaven and hell. He insists that to be a writer is a calling God has given him, though tasking, but has no choice, but to do the bidding of Him who has called him to preach the gospel of truth to the world.
