LIFEBLOOD

nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

Upon burnt earth
A soldier lies
Hours pass beneath
Uncaring skies.

The lifeblood now
Towards its last
Thoughts of mother
And the past.

It could be Ypres
Or Bannockburn
Stalingrad
Berlins fall,

Anytime throughout
Mans cruel reign
From times beginning
Always the same.

The dying soldier
Often hailed
A fallen hero
Now lies slain.
