XENOPHOBIC PATRIOT

rebellion_in_sanity

(satirical critique of xenophobic nationalism)

Caress the cold steel
Caress my friend
That's what you wanted
To get counted among men

You watch the brown ants
Crawling on the sidewalks
They have come in hordes
Go out, and save your land

They look funny,
They look unclean
They speak in strange tongues
No one should have let them in

You are the chosen one
To save the share of pie
Your brothers look up to you
Stand tall, and be their guide

Go out on the sidewalk
Where the brown ants crawl
Gun gives you the power to decide,
Who will live and who will fall

Squeeze the trigger, fire the shots
See the fear in their eyes
Oh Lord, was it good
To watch the brown ants die!

Deep in the night
When everyone sleeps
You lay awake
Feeling a sense of defeat

You asked Lord's forgiveness
For killing them all
Lord said He couldn't forgive
It was no sin to make them fall

  • Comment from author about the poem: The poem is a satirical critique of xenophobic nationalism. It exposes the irrationality and horror of dehumanizing those perceived as 'other.' It follows the misguided actions of a patriot who commits violence under a twisted sense of duty, highlighting the absurdity of such beliefs and the hollow justifications used.

Glad to see this Rebellion it takes courage to post controversial writes and this tells the story of prejudice in a satirical manner. Here the absurdity of how people believe their their God condones the killing of others. A great challenge of peoples beliefs where art's aim is to raise awareness of inequities, injustices and the absurdity of commonly accepted conventions. Great job

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. As you mentioned, the aim was to question the moral standpoint of prejudices by painting an extreme but relatable picture. Thanks again
