Long shadows
Under the morning Sun
Disappear into the night,
Like sleight of hand by magician
Making a rabbit disappear
Into a hat,
When the day is done
Shadow was the truth
In the light of the day
Night shades
Burden of the shadow
Truth changes between
Night and Day
Hey, traveller
In search for the Truth
Since the beginning of Time
Shape of Time
Shape of the Truth
Have occupied your mind
Open your eyes
Open your mind
Take a breath deep
Time and truth intertwine
Like snakes
On a perpetual mating dance
They are not meant to finish
Time gives credence to Truth
Like light gives credence to diamond
When it shines through
Truth repays the debt
Imprints the passage of time
In our impressionable minds
Like the printed pages of a book
From the long forgotten time

- Comment from author about the poem: I always wonder about truth and time. While, I would love to believe that something called absolute truth exists, I have never been able to comprehend how truth could exist without being influenced by time. Please give me your suggestions.

I love this topic so phiosophical it is ripe for poetic expression and metaphor. Love your metaphor of shadows and the one of snakes and how you relate them. Snakes related to evil can on the other hand be not only beguilers but good in eating vermin. Their sedding of skin is like the changing of truth to a lie or vice versa truth changes over time indeed. Very nicely done my friend
Thank you very much for leaving your thoughts behind. The imagery you alluded to gave me ideas on how to improve. Really appreciate your comment
Right – so here’s my take (I think it parallels yours, but if not, you know where to find me):
Truth is contingent upon time and place. No such thing as ultimate truth (and I’m not talking about truths swimming around in a thought disordered mind). Truth inevitably changes as more knowledge and insight is accrued over “the passage of time”. Don’t know why I started this…you had it there from the start.
Hi Dave, thanks a ton for your read and comment. I wish I could discuss this with you at length. I studied Physics and as per the accepted theory everything is relative as Time itself can appear to shrink based on the velocity.
My question is then why do our psyches always search for invariant truths? Why did nature make us like that?
Once again, thanks for your thoughts. Really appreciate it - this is exactly why I come here (for an opportunity to discuss)
Always find me ready for debate (Though 'poets' do object from time to time).
No movement on the physics front - right out of my depth.
Dunno about nature - Is it not a common characteristic - the need or hope for stability and certainty (however much that may be an illusion)?
I guess your conclusion about stability and hope is the only thing that can explain this anomaly. Really, nice of you to be forthcoming on this subject. It is helping clear my long standing confusion. Thank you
