TALKING ENVELOPE

Jude Chukwuemeka Muoneke

Notice of absence from Jude Chukwuemeka Muoneke
I will surely get back to you when I come online.

The society is mad,
Rejoicing in her madness,
Abnormality is now normal,
Good and evil are in a wrestling contest.

Humans are no longer humane
They have lost their sense of
morality,
Avarice the cancer of the heart.

The system has been punctured
With pregnant envelopes,
Merited opportunities choked
By men of no conscience.

Where is the future of the nation?
When dickheaded nonentities
Pilot and decides the affairs of the state,
Africa is walking and crawling in democracy.

Should we fold our hands and watch?
These clueless hearts are devouring
our treasury without leniency.

They have conditioned our hands and lips
Under lock and key,
When we sold our votes
For a pot of porridge.

We can change the narrative,
When we caution our selfishness
And fight a just course,
Unity the vehicle of change.

  • Comment from author about the poem: The poem reflects on the high rate of corruption in Africa and Nigeria. Bribery and corruption have punctured every system in Nigeria. People hardly get jobs by merit as a result of corruption. God-fatherism and motherism are the major problem in Nigeria. These set of people hijack the system buying jobs for their families and relatives. There's no hope for a nation with such mentality.
