A Planet Called _ _ U _ _

Praise Kat

You were once the core of another’s earth
In their many layers, you were hidden within
A fire without a spark, burning away so someone else wasn’t freezing
Enclosed because no one would care if they cut off your auricles
Admit it then — that your heart was wrapped in discord

I know it all to well
How it feels to be a ghost-planet
Drifting off in space with a heart that’s –248℃
A song with no melody except the haunting silence
Attracting only darkness and dragging spirits

As they slowly conflate me with another myth
I’ll try to remember the moon I was tidally locked with
The one that came through the Acheron, or was it the Styx?
It doesn’t matter now; the memories have frozen over
All that remains is a cratered face under a black veil

Even my name, they pulled from the deep ice just to bury
Why do my brothers still belong to a sun that is no longer mine?
Dear Jupiter, Neptune —  I’m also spiralling endlessly, aren’t I?

There’s a soul beyond my reach that may heat up my heart
But she still belongs to the Sun; she’s still providing warmth elsewhere
I once thought that I’d never dare to kidnap someone else’s core
But there is nothing else when the heart is wrapped in discord
