The Town I Grew Up In

Accidental Poet

Well, I remember the good ‘ole days

In my home town

Swimming at the beach

And warm Summer sounds

The baseball park

At the end of my street

Or the trails through the woods

Go my running feet

Riding my bike to

Ronnie Shone’s corner store

Or somewhere else

I never been before

Front Street sure has changed

Next to the harbor pier was the Quarter Deck

Now it’s The Lucky Finn

All I could say is “What the heck”

I remember mom took me for

New shoes at Combs Shoe Store

Where is my youth?

My Scituate I want to restore

And the Quincy Gas Station where

Mom got S&H Green stamps with her gas

Now renovated to another bank

Might as well knock it down and grow grass

I used to go with mom into the bank

Like yesterday, I remember the Rockland Trust

Low and behold it’s still there

And inside still looks like it was

Over the years the town has changed

Gone now are places I used to know

Why does time have to change

The places I must let go

The Scituate I loved so much

The way it used to be

They say change is inevitable

But you can’t change me

Everyone's got a rear view mirror N. Human nature always beckoning us to look back. 🤔

Going back is always a surprise AP, memories that you had have sometimes been removed, but the fond memories are with you.

Nostagia often turns to dismay when old places are visited and seen to have changed. We feel we don't change but then we look in a mirror. Nice write well written and with great rhyme and flow

You can take the boy out of the town, but you can't take the town out of the boy soren. Thanks for the read and comment. 😉👍

Well as I have a lot of experience going back to my past, I can really appreciate this, even when it's completely different the memories are kept the way they were. I never see anything the same in London, but it's me, I never change. A wonderful theme dear A.P 🌹

Even as our towns look different us now, they looked different to someone else during our young age way back then. Most people I think prefer the way things were while growing up, those early years seem to always have a way of staying with us. Not to live in the past per say, but it just seems to pull us back. 🤔

It's so nostalgic! I love it. When the place has two realities, one in your mind, frozen in time forever, and one in the real world where you can see the changes, it can be pretty jarring, but in a bittersweet way.

Thank you, Lady, for the read and compliment. Yes, it feels pretty special to be able to look at a place and see it as it is right now before you, but as you\'re looking at it see it as it was many years ago in your memory. 😉
