Broken Concrete

Katdream

I wander streets at night
looking for answers
clearing my head
creating excuses not to go home

broken concrete
filthy sidewalks
smells like death
or is this just another nightmare

god isn’t here
if that’s who you’re looking for
he died a while back
didn’t you watch the news?

angels left town
took the last bus to nowhere
wings packed neatly in backpacks
no need for them any longer

watched the bar close
patrons stumbling out
maybe they got it right
numb and dumb

jesus called my cell phone
said he needed to talk
what does that make me?
a new messiah?

it gets old, this wandering
maybe I'll just go home
make a sandwich
watch some mindless TV show
