Awakening in Twilight

Matthew R. Callies

In the blush of dusk, two shadows blend,

With timid whispers, hearts begin to race,

In a hidden realm where innocence can bend,

A sanctuary forged through friendship's grace.

With glances soft as moonlight’s gentle glow,

They dare to tread on paths unknown and wild,

Fear weaves its thread through each uncharted flow,

Yet vulnerability unveils the child.

Fingers brush like leaves caught in a breeze,

Explorative touches spark a blushing flame;

A map drawn in the tremors of unease,

Each sigh and laugh igniting passions' claim.

Every heartbeat echoes secrets yet untold—

Together they unravel layers of the soul.

Through anxious trembles and shyly spoken dreams,

Their laughter dances light upon the air;

In twilight's embrace, where nothing's as it seems,

They shed their skins of doubt and deep despair.

No labels shackle them or prying eyes deter—

This moment blooms as sweet as night's allure.

As bodies intertwine beneath a starry dome,

The world outside fades into muted tones;

In this communion carved from flesh and foam—

Two hearts converge, casting aside their stones.

With every breath shared and surrendering glance,

Their spirits rise anew; they take a chance.

Boldness blossoms amidst whispers soft and shy;

Exhilaration sparked by fear’s relentless chase—

In twilight's cradle where only truth resides—

They find themselves within this sacred space.

Adulthood's edge calls forth this raw delight—

In every touch exchanged is mere flight of light.

And when daylight creeps with morning’s kiss so pure,

Awkward laughter echoes 'neath budding trees—

But shadows linger where desire was secure;

A pact unspoken floats upon the breeze.

With innocence cloaked in adulthood’s guise—

Each secret nestled solid beneath bold skies.

Awakening remains—a tender bloom unfurled;

Friendship forged anew through human frames entwined;

Together they decipher love's ambiguous world —

Two boys who danced with destiny defined—

By beats of thumping hearts their journey starts anew;

As dawn breaks forth—they rise to face what’s true.
