(Conditional Love)

Introverted Sage

I love you - so I picked you flowers from my walk alone outside.
'I picked the prettiest ones I could find' - to you I did confide.
Then I learned my flowers - they were not good enough.
"Who left these weeds upon the counter?!"
Tossed in the trash, you turned - left in a big huff.

I got new shoes for school today
I cannot mess this up!
Slapped in the face and sent to my room
When I came home with a scuff.

I love you - so I found you these rocks.
There must be diamonds in them too!
Sparkling in the light, I had to get them just for you.
Big enough to make me trip, it's how I scuffed my shoe.

Saved the best for you, the ones that shined the most.
But you walked right past, ever so fast - as if I was a ghost.

Flowers today delivered to your work
Card signed by some guy named Rob.
Set upon the mantle; vase, bow and a candle.
"Wow, he did a great job!"

I love you - so much I made you this card.
Put into it all my love
Bubble letters and glitter, best work I ever did.
My card never made it to the mantle
Embarrassed, you kept it hid.
