In the darker shades

Charles Kick

In the darker shades

I stay the same

A light upon the matter

Thousands upon thousands

A million years

A heart of rent and tatter

Silence all the laughter

Fall from off the rafter

Faster

Spilled upon the causeway on the ground

Didn’t make a sound

No one found

Crippled by the stern shackles and bound

The heart no more to pound
