Memento

Kevin Hulme

How like Pictures of Picasso when young

The Past can jolt and surprise ,

So much in Youth when our Heat had begun ;

No thought of the cost to our future lives.

I still have that Lock of Silken Bronze Hair,

You kindly gave when I Sheepishly asked,

A Testament kept from a brief Affair ;

An Affair so short that we drank to the last.

But then to our Ideals we did return

To make do and just strive for the best ;

Are you Sad girl in a Marriage to learn

Theres one who’s Heart was more greatly expressed ?

Still ; I wish you joy for the rest of your days ;

Oft recall one Man - and his ardent ways.
