Whispers of Gratitude

John Rye Djabah Adade

In the soft glow of the dawn sun,

As dismay of cockcrow tangle our cobra bodies,

When the sounds of footsteps are crystal,

While brooms commute to salvage the market square,

And, the community beams to exchange morning pleasantries.

We lay on our refuted floors,

On the corridors of a guttered protection,

In cold anxiety and swayed imaginations,

The future appears dim, scattered and shuttled,

We cried for hope.

As we lay, forgotten in our imageries,

Stars of heroes emerged from our roots and beyond,

They created a tunnel on our doors,

They set us on a path of hope,

Bright, clear, and crystal,

And, our smiles are now shaded.

For the community that quests a successful future,

For the heroes that sacrifice in abundance,

For the hearts that share joyfully,

For the genteel and assiduous brains,

That imparts knowledge, discipline and love.

With each beaming smile on our faces,

With each drop of joyful tears,

Each ecstatic hop from our dancing feet,

Each teasing and dangling tongue stuck out from our mouths,

Each warm embrace, with genuine laughter.

We shall forever keep your memories in our hearts,

We shall lay your names on our successes,

We shall say ‘Thank you’ till eternity.

Thank you,

Thank you,

Thank you.
