There's a Light Inside Your Heart.

Novarain

There’s a light inside your heart and you’ve gotta turn it on

Glass shards of it have already been broken long ago,

So, all you’ve got left is the filament that still waits to glow

You need this light or, so you’ve been told

The absence of it makes it so dark you can barely see your toes

There’s a light inside your heart and you’ve gotta turn it on

A group of friends can give you the shine of their light

They easily wear their lights on their heads

But it never lasts long

You can eat, sleep, and do what humans do

But you’re always going to miss what life really is

And maybe you can go outside and play

But you never had a reason to anyway

There’s a light inside your heart and you’ve gotta turn it on

The world is too bright, and you’re always dim

With the crowds denying a shattered bulb

With a flawed filament

Deep inside your soul you know it glows

You’ve felt it before, but nobody knows

Because you’ve got to be alone

For the small little light to spark up and show

There’s a light inside your heart and you’ve gotta turn it on

Maybe it needs isolation and time

But even alone it doesn’t even shine

Sure, it sparks up

But it never stays

Like fireworks in the warm night sky

That come once a year

Your retinas are scorched

And then it disappears

Maybe your light just isn’t for you

Or maybe it’s a destiny that will never come true

Or a dream given up

Maybe the light can never glow without force

Harsh words and cruel gestures

Poking bones and suffering through lectures

On how to restore this filament, this light in your heart

But it never works

There’s a light inside your heart and you’ve gotta turn it on

It's gotta turn on somehow, you did it before

But it was when you felt like you truly had been one with yourself

And the grass that lies beneath your feet

There’s a light inside your heart and you’ve gotta turn it on

You found out a solution, but it sounds really wrong

You take the little plier and cut the tangled wires of your veins

Trying to escape your body to get to this light

This filament

There are no wires that need to be cut now

But the light still won't budge

So, you decide on something stronger

You slide your finger across the tip of the long blade

With this newly brought tool, you can escape your cage.

There’s a light inside your heart and you’ve gotta turn it on

You impale the blade into your heart

And wiggle it around

It touches the part

The light

The filament

And you finally glow

A bright, rainbow light shedding out through the house

A goodbye note to your light-having friends on the couch

A tune so happy it can cure disease

And you, left sitting there, with your final last breath you leave

Yet it dies down

And the house is gray—

void of sound

The only color a crimson red

And clear shards of what used to be your bulb

The filament burned out, turned into mold

The light leaves it all behind, into ashes it grew

Why?

Because there's simply no you.

There’s a light inside your heart and you’ve gotta turn it on

There’s a light inside your heart and you’ve gotta turn it on

There’s a light inside your heart and you’ve gotta turn it on

There's a light inside your heart

And you’ve turned it on wrong.
