The Price of Revenge

rebellion_in_sanity

In the dark crevasses of mind
Flows the river of pretense
Hiding an anger so wild

Geyser of frustration spews venom
Poisoned self threatens to explode
Like a sleepy time bomb

Darkness sings:
"Go and demand your place
Revenge is your right
An eye for an eye
They got rich by stealing
The share of your pie"

Seek revenge
Strangle them in your mind
Relish watching them squirm and die
One day you wake up realising
They are hale and hearty
It was you
Who got strangled the whole time

"Be strong"
You always hum along
Never realised strength was in
Letting go and
Accepting bygones as bygones

"Be kind"
You heard it many times
Took yourself for granted
Being kind to yourself
Was the last thing on your mind

Now you teeter on the brink
Man in the mirror,
You don't know who it is
A mangled remains of a tragedy
Mocks your desperation to assert yourself
At the cost of your sanity

How true. We can neglect ourselves when it comes to kindness. Sage words here. Enjoyed the read.

You just hit the proverbial nail, square on its proverbial head sir .. In an increasingly false & unkind world, it makes no sense at all, not to look after ourselves .. Neville

Thank you very much for your thoughts. It feels strangly exhilarating to be able to convey my thoughts and more so when a seasoned poet like yourself takes the time to read and agree. Really appreciate your time Sir!
