An Infant's First Thought

Mohammad younus koul

An Infant's First Thought—
Is it born of the first slap,
that stings his cheek
and severs the silken thread—
his last memory of home?

The cradle of the Divine,
his mother's sacred vessel,
where love encircled
like an endless embrace.

Who would wish to leave such a place?
And so his first thought rises:
"How in the world did I fall?"
