Smoke Break

courtneycooper

The answer you seek is your reflection,

A truth shaped by your own perception.

You think the world sees what you do,

Even mirrors back, eluding you.

Falling fast in the wrong direction,

Unsure, unsteady—seeking correction.

The ground beneath feels sharp and thin,

The world outside a whirling spin.

Are mistakes the lessons you require?

When to leap, when to conspire?

Everything races, wrong yet fast,

The present fleeting, shadows cast.

Will this world ever soothe the hollow,

Buried deep in the bones you follow?

The one desire that calls and tempts—

A fleeting truth, forever bent.

But must you own what you can’t hold tight,

Or let it fade into the night?

Perspective shapes the path ahead—

So light the flame, and clear your head.
