Tomorrow It Could Be You.
As I sit with my begging bowl huddled on the cold floor.
Watching endless people enter the supermarket door.
I'm cold and tired from another sleepless hungry night.
And to all these people I am an dirty unwanted sight.
My worn-out clothes are smelly, wet and full of holes.
My old shoes let in the water right through my soles.
I just looked straight ahead hoping someone will stop.
Maybe give me a couple of bob, I'm not asking a lot.
Some do not even look they just pretend I am not here.
Others hesitate they might care but can only stare.
Thinking I would blow any money on alcohol and drugs.
Instead of a nice hot drink, a bath and a bit of grub.
It's possible that some of them see themselves in me.
And it is frightening to realise what their life could be.
Those who do just stare, remember yesterday i was you.
All to easily, tomorrow this could be you too.

- Comment from author about the poem: A hugely ignored problem, i think we do not address it properly because it acknowledges that our society is failing.

So true and so aggravating to the inner spirit. Our empathy levels are quite low for an advanced specie.

BRAVO
Thank you Tony
You're welcome
Homelessness can happen to anyone. We should never forget that and show some compassion. Not wise to give money as that can be spent on addictions. But drinks, food , clothes and blankets a yes yes. Nicely composed stanzas. Lines flow smoothly.
Thank you Cassie for the lovely comment
