Progress
Sitting drinking my coffee with friends,
some sounds to the memories they send,
me to think about what’s left in the past.
The disturbing thoughts, they are vast.
It's been a while since the sun hid my fate,
of that battle my mind tried to recreate,
the mission's failure and its total cost,
that day, lots of lives were lost.
I have learnt to mellow my minds state,
when sounds make my memories irate.
Depending where, I find my mind leaving,
determines the images my mind is perceiving.
So, when I see the past in front of me,
I ask the person next to what they see.
As they speak the truth seen in their eyes,
focusing on their words, the images subside.
Bring me back to the view that is real,
calm my blood flow and relax my feel.
Sitting with friends having a drink,
listening intently to what they think.
These pills for when I get distraught,
keeping the past from my thought.

- Comment from author about the poem: So, I wrote this because I decided to take the last fragment this direction. Where the soldier understands what triggers the memories, and has medication to help. Also, a non-medicinal way to defuse the thoughts. Sorry, it just wouldn’t stay in my head. The connecting piece to the poem Flashback is the word “sun”. It hid the enemy.

Excellent write
We all need a way to de-escalate and diffuse ourselves from the world we live in. I tend to use poetry, although I’ve used meditation in the past as well some use fantasy and others social interactions. This poem explains it well.
I really enjoyed this read, i can totally connect to it.
