I wait outside the cinema you’re still not here
I glance at my watch I can taste stale beer
I pull my jacket round me as the rain begins to fall
And Jeanne Moreau looks down at me from a frame on the wall
I’m hoping I remember what your face looks like
I was so drunk on your beauty the other night
You said one of your interests was French new wave film
So I scoured around the cinemas and found Jules et Jim
When you asked what I was into what was my favourite movie
I joked Austin powers and you said I was groovy
And that’s when I fell for you that’s when I fell for you
I suggested meeting early maybe get a drink
You said you might be working but you’ll have a think
I’ve been here now for ages but I’m determined to wait
Cos you’re just the sort of girl who’d be fashionably late
That’s why I fell for you that’s why I fell for you
As the evening wears on and the showers get heavier
I peer through sodden hair searching every face for yer
The film would have started now Jules will have met Jim
I turn to leave but you’re there accompanied by a hymn
As we stand wet through in front of Francois Trouffot
I want the world to stop and I never want to go
I said shall we go inside the rain is teeming
And you suggest going to yours and watch it on streaming
And thats why I fell for yer yea, that’s why I fell for yer
