A Conversation (PARTS 1 AND 2)

A Conversation

Did you hear the old man say,
to the child, as he wept
why are thou on grief so sold,
when thou are young, and the grave is for the old.

The child might not have known the Jewels of England,
nor what goes on beyond the Mighty Two,
but with tears in eye, and truth in lie,
In foolish wisdom he did reply.

Did you hear the child say,
to the old man, as he wondered.
'Why, in grief am I deep?
for who told thou that I shan't sleep?
Sure, the grave of dust is for thee,
but the grave of time shall be for me.'

A Conversation (II)

Did you hear the mother say,
to the child resting head on bosom,
'Child dearest, what's such grief
for the Earth is vast, and time such brief?'

The child's tears they shall not stop or hark,
for cry is he, and weak at heart,
but wisdom in foolishness does he mingle,
words in lie, on truth he stumbles.

Did you hear the child say,
to his mother as she beckoned,
'Why lament over my fate,
for reached have I Hell's darned gate.
Mother, my words are weak and weary,
and your cruel Earth is much too dreary!

Oh mother dear, hark, pray to the Lord,
remove this Earth from our accord.
The children such in peace shall sleep,
ours tear will stop, we cease to weep'
