Press On

DesertWords

A month ago, if you asked me then,
I would have said, "I'm through."
The sky fell in pieces around my feet;
it makes no sense to simply repeat
all the meaningless things I do.

I've tried to find a way to escape
this arid, vacuous time,
but all my efforts have been for naught.
I've applied techniques that I've been taught,
but I found neither reason nor rhyme.

Until that day when you stopped by
and mentioned two simple words.
"Press on," you said, "and don't give in.
Brighter days will come when you begin
to follow these words undeterred."

So, I take each day with its good and its bad,
and I try very hard to be strong.
I give it my best to the end of the day,
then at night in my bed I humbly pray:
Give me courage, my God, to press on!
