When you turn Sixty

Narayan Gadagkar

With a postgraduate degree in physics' grace,

You soared through the skies, exploring space,

Thirty-five years of service in Meteorological science

Forecasting weather, Earth’s most dynamic process.

The rains that pound must be forecast with certainty.

Issuing alerts of yellow orange and red during cyclone

and downpour warnings have helped local population.

The tasks you accomplished with sincerity and precision.

Balancing work life and home maker job diligently

Marching with life partner energetically and   tirelessly

Parenting two children with tender care and love

A testament to woman’s calibre beyond compare.

A scientist's inquisitive mind, a mother's deep embrace,

Blending two distinct worlds with elegance and grace,

In weather observatories and homes, you have left your mark,

Predicting the storms outside and remaining calm inside.

Occupations far apart, separated us quite often.

Distant parts of Indian states we stayed now and then.

Onus of upbringing of kids a mammoth task so challenging

With courage and resilience, you did with strategic managing.

Events,we have experienced along the life's journey

Some sad, scary, some joyous but sailed through midway

Life with you has been a fragrant floral bouquet always.

When  you get tagged on the day when you turn  sixty

Let Senior citizenship be  grace and open new gateway.

I liked it, but it seemed a bit perverse doing so!
I'm not a disciple of Donald Trump but what did he say?- "to retire is to expire."
