“His Solitude”
(2024/26/24 Tom Entrican)
It plays the same old tune each day
And forever has it paved his way
Like a wound that never seems to heal
Always hits “Bad Luck” when he spins the wheel
Is there any wonder he has attitude
They come and go without success
And leave his world in such a mess
So many times I’ve heard him say
Oh won’t you please all go away
As he builds his walls of solitude
The others do not understand
What is wrong with this old man?
They do not understand the fuss
As he hobbles along on his little crutch
Slowly he weaves his own brand of rude
But who can blame his twisted mind
So many bruises over time
They bark at him, like he knows why
The world looks different in his eye
As he zips himself up in his solitude
There never was a place for him
The loner with the peppered chin
He’s learned to take what he can get
Along with his big bag of regrets
And in prayer, tries to get renewed
But even faith won’t make it stay
The love that seems to go away
For earthly hope, he just has none
Humanity has come undone
And one learns to enjoy their solitude
At times he feels the need for more
Then he takes a step outside the door
He sees nothing but empty sincerity
Then returns to where he has sanity
Now Heaven is all that he can pursue
For bitterness, there is no more
He’s been around, he knows the score
Nothing is left when it’s time to go
Just a little dust behind the door
And with his Lord he has his solitude
