New gods

sorenbarrett

In fertile soil of raw human need is planted a hopeful seed
About its sprout, are uprooted weeds of doubt
Tended by farmer priests, sacrament of future feasts
Harvested for the masses mixed with grains of other grasses

Today's history tomorrow's myths, baked in ovens of mystery
Present hero future god born from time's facade
Out of Phoenix ashes, watered by faith's splashes
A new Christ is born in Zeus' form

I think Zeus is closer to the god of modern people.

A good point that I will not debate they all have common elements I thank you for your read and words of support. Happy New Year

In my experience and observation (which isn’t saying much) it is innately human and cyclical to develop and rebirth belief systems and we are most likely going to do it again and again well into the future… very astute metaphor! Juicy stuff so early in the year… a poetic celebration 🎉 🥳

Thanks Cryptic, I am aware that I may ruffle a few feathers with this one and was originally intending to title it " Not to be offended". I appreciate your kind words my friend.

Believe me, I’ve had my share of run ins… not everyone in the world is of the same mind with regards to freedom of speech. But that’s nothing new to you and I’m preaching to the choir, like… 👍🏻 You are most welcome Soren 🙏🏻

I have no doubt this will raise a few eyebrows and questions, but i enjoyed the piece, well written.

Thank you Tobani it has been a while since I have raised some controversy so let's see how tolerant people can be in a new year

You are very welcome, i always believe as long as some one is not being personally abusive to someone, then the writing should be free, as that`s how we learn to understand better by listening to a range of opinions, not just our blinkered ones. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Zeus will be idolatry, though he never existed in my view.

                • sorenbarrett

Thanks Orchi that indeed is the common opinion and view. Appreciate the read and comment

I would offer something to say, except our friend arqios said it...and better than I would have at that! LOL! A wonderful, thought-provoking write, Soren. Happy New Year my friend! 🥂🍾

Dear friend, we grapple with belief systems all our lives, if we are thinking beings. If we are not, we follow the herd in relative bliss which is far easier. Your poem speaks tof thoughts we should not fear, but embrace, that we may come to our own understanding and find peace within ourselves. I applaud you.!

                      • sorenbarrett

Thank you so much Bella for your read and understanding. What is one man's god is another's idol.

I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God besides me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
